Therapy for Teens
Teenagers are in a unique stage of life where they are in between the child and adult worlds. Developmentally teenagers experience a surge of growth in the emotional part of their brain and have more intense emotions then a child or adult brain. Teenagers are passionate, but can also be moody and more likely to act on impulse. They may be self-conscious and suffer from anxiety. They are compassionate and empathetic, but can be principled and rigid. They can succumb to peer pressure, but also value friendships and new social environments. They seek novelty, but may also engage in dangerous and risky behavior. They are are less likely to think before they act, pause to consider potential consequences of their actions, or modify their behaviors. They want to be respected and viewed as competent and independent and in their determination for autonomy, push away their parents. Therapy can help teenagers bridge the two worlds between adolescence and adulthood.
